The location of Deventer on the IJssel river has brought the city a great deal of wealth in the past and present.
Its strategic location along the A1 makes Deventer an ideal junction point for distribution between Germany and the Randstad. And for the east and north-east of The Netherlands as well, thanks to the vicinity of the A50.
The harbours and sluice of Deventer, situated in a strategically located harbour area with a large capacity, have been modernised. You will find that these harbours offer space for waterfront industry and logistics as well. So, plenty of opportunities along the water.
The historical centre with its wonderful shops and great variety of bars and restaurants is within walking distance from the harbour. The harbour itself is accessible for vessels within CEMT-Class IV (the lock chamber is 11.80 meters wide and 100 meters long). That is why the harbour is accessible for vessels such as the Spits, Kempenaar, Dortmunder and Europaschip.
Special docking facilities have been created near the historical centre for saloon boats. Docking facilities for pleasure cruising are planned to be realised on the short term as well.
A new passers port is situated north of the city. For pleasure cruisers, it will soon be possible to dock next to the IJsselhotel as well.
